Paint It Red Campaign

Back in February, we were lucky enough to not only be asked to model for the upcoming Paint It Red campaign, but also to style the looks. If you haven’t heard of Paint It Red, it’s the newest thing to come out of fashion empire, House of Quirky…the same peeps behind some of our favourite labels, including Minkpink and Evil Twin. We’re so excited to finally be able to reveal the images below, hope you like!

Childish Fun

❤ Jess & Stef's Faves

Is there anything better than waking up, throwing on a mini dress and sandals, and then just walking out the door? Oh sunshine how I missed you. Seriously excited about this latest summer wardrobe addition that was picked up on our Shakuhachi spree yesterday – paired with my jellies, I’m very much feeling like a little kid again. Now it’s off to the pool for some handstands and a chocolate milkshake.

Bali Fun

❤ Jess & Stef's Faves

So unfortunately the Bali heat has (hopefully temporarily) fried our camera, but not to worry, we’ve got our trusty iphone cameras at hand so the HTL show will go on. Arrived in Bali for some much needed R&R a couple of days ago and I already never want to leave! It’s pretty much just tanning and massages from here on… although we are making one exception to get off our sun beds today a shoot with one of our favourites – Shakuhachi!

Le Tan

❤ Jess & Stef's Faves

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of the tan, so when we heard Le Tan was running a “Rock a Tan in Winter” campaign, we obviously needed to get involved. With the theme of “Life is Better in Colour”, taking our pics was as natural for us as slipping on a pair of Jeffrey Campbell platforms. Stay tuned for more photos coming over the next couple of weeks!

Mimco Sisters Campaign

With the question of whether we now live in Melbourne or Sydney becoming more unclear by the day, we headed off to the sunnier city for the Mimco sisters campaign shoot. Set on a cliff overlooking the ocean, the location was breathtaking, and the crew was up there with the most fun we’ve ever worked with which made the whole day hilarious – to give you an idea of the shenanigans that took place, at one point we walked in to see make-up artist Nigel Stanislaus in a bright aqua wig singing to 80s Mariah Carey (see insta @howtwolive for pics). It’s now bye bye Sydney, and off to an even sunnier destination…can’t wait for paradise!

If I Was a Wah Girl (Guest Post)

As Melbourne’s favourite nail artist is off frolicking around Europe for a few weeks on an epic Nailcation, HTL is lucky enough to have the inside scoop. Celia from I Scream Nails is currently exploring some of the world’s coolest and most creative nail art, and below you can read a little snippet of the first half of her tour.

ISCREAMNAILCATION

Shoreditch is one of the coolest neighbourhoods in London. Comprising of Brick Lane’s curry mile with its street art, car boot sale art markets, galleries, food markets and super hip barber shops. Amongst all the coolness is a new(ish) addition to the area… Boxpark! Boxpark is a 5 year pop up retail space made up of roughly 50 shipping containers, cool restaurants and Caribbean bars (picture half naked, 6ft tall Jamican woman serving drinks). Amongst the retail spaces are, of course, all the cool kids such as Nike, Vans and WAH Nails.

NAILCA ACCESSI was lucky enough to get to spend 2 days with the girls at WAH Nails and I knew instantly why they have been so successful on the nail art scene. Professional, cool, fun and super talented. These girls know how to create any nail art design you want. I spent my first day with Charlotte Roberts, an absolutely adorable and down to earth London girl who has been at WAH since day one and is also one of the co-creators of Mushpit, an awesome mag about fashion and boy crushes (could she be any cooler?!!). I couldn’t believe that a Tuesday would be so crazy busy; we had double bookings all day long. On offer during the 2 days were some of the I Scream Nails original nail art designs and I could barely contain my excitement when several of WAH’s customers chose the I Scream Nails designs!

NAILCATION

The second day at WAH I got to hang with Ellie Harry who is an amazing nail artist and specialises in custom nail art designs. Ellie has a background in graphic design and has played a major role in putting together the second WAH Nails book (out in July). We had an awesome day together with lots of laughs and nails did. The highlight for me was watching Ellie paint a customers nails with an I Scream Nails design! arghhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Before I left for the day Ellie made sure she gave me my very own set of WAH Nails …. it was exciting having my nails done by one of the WAH Nails girls!

I’m off to revisit WAH tomorrow for another set of fabulous nails before we head off on the rest of our ‘Nailcation’!

A Fairy Godmother

A new cafe has opened up in my hood so obviously had to go there for brunch over the long weekend! Was so excited to finally find a place in Melb that serves quinoa porridge.. although I have to say I think the one I make definitely rivals it! Later  I was walking down Chapel Street and a woman looked at me funny and told me I looked like a fairy godmother… I initially thought it was a really strange thing to say… then I remembered I wasn’t only in head to toe pink, I was also wearing macaron rings, cat broaches and my flower power sunnies.

Interviewing Shakuhachi for Nasty Gal

Our love for Nasty Gal stems from back when it was an eBay store selling quirky vintage pieces, so imagine how happy our happy dance was when they approached us to interview another of our all time fashion favourites, Aussie label, Shakuhachi. We met with Connie, Shakuhachi’s National Sale Manager and all-round babe, to talk about our shared love of prints, what life is really like in the fashion industry, and what’s coming next for the brand.

We’ve included a preview of the interview below, but to read it in full and for further images go to blog.nastygal.com. Don’t forget to watch our video and let us know what you think! (we haven’t quite figured out how to embed the video just yet but click here to watch)

HTL: Can you tell us a bit about Shakuhachi’s upcoming collection? Shak: For designer Jessie White, this collection is a lot more edgy and punk rock compared to her other collections. She contrasts between the prints, the leathers, and different textures. She’s done a bit of faux fur as well, and animal prints. And then obviously touches of gold and silver to contrast back with the prints.

HTL: How did you go from a local label to being huge all around the world? Shak: Jessie is originally from Melbourne, and I actually just recently had a customer tell me that Jessie used to sell the label by herself, going door-to-door to shops, introducing herself to people and getting the brand out there. To me I think obviously she knew what she needed to do, she had passion, and she followed it. For Jessie I think she’s always had the good designs, but she built a really strong team over in Bali, and from there it’s just gone crazy. Each range now goes from strength to strength, and from that our following keeps getting stronger and stronger, and we’re offering things that other labels aren’t necessarily offering.

Cleo Bachelor of the Year Party

Was invited to attend the Cleo Bachelor of the Year party last night. It was essentially a room full of screaming girls who looked on as a group of men paraded around on stage…but who could blame the girls for getting excited, these guys were hot! Before we knew it, we were getting involved in all the commotion and asking one of them for a photo – this may have been a bit of a low point for us, but it was totally worth it and resulted in a great insta pic. You can check out the final 50 bachelors here.
