It was a week before the VAMFF launch and the sun was shining (or more likely, probably wasn’t). We bumped into Graeme Lewsey, CEO of (recently renamed) VAMFF, aka Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. While chatting about the upcoming launch, he casually drops in the words “I can’t wait to see what outfits you have planned”. Challenge accepted. So here is the end result, of course the obvious choice was Alice McCall, I’m just sad you were too sick to get out of bed and come twin with me. And as for the festival, if the preview we had on launch night is anything to go by, VAMFF 2014 is set to be the biggest and most exciting yet! Can’t wait.

With summer arriving oh so momentarily I took the opportunity to throw on this amazing House of Cards skirt and headed to Kanteen for a delicious breaky by the Yarra. I cannot get enough of purple on purple at the moment… I even attempted to top this outfit off with the purple HTL x Windsor Smith’s but they were sadly no where to be found (assuming they’re at your house) so I settled for the holographics instead. So excited that we won’t have these problems anymore now that we’ve decided to live together again!

Celebrating TarraWarra Museum of Art’s 10th birthday yesterday went down in style, with a delicious lunch overlooking the beautiful Yarra Valley. So sad that you couldn’t come, although in bright colours and my crazy shades I did a pretty solid job of looking suitably over the top without you.

With Summer no where in sight, we decided it was time to migrate over to the coast for the weekend to at least pretend the sunny season was on it’s way. Was feeling particularly adventurous on Sunday morning so rather than breakfast at the Epicurean, we headed to Bittern Market for some morning poffertjes and to visit the cute animals. I fell in love with a black and white guinea pig who I named Pepper, but Elliot wouldn’t let me take him home – damn him! Topped off the weekend by seeing three movies that were on the top of my todo list – Kill Bill 1 and 2, and Lord of the Rings. All in all, a very productive weekend!

As the racing season drew to a close, we thought yet another shoe purchase seemed a little excessive, so we decided to give our Caulfield Cup platforms a bit of a makeover. We were pretty happy with the results, so we thought we’d share our secret and let you know how you can make your own in under 15 minutes.
- a pair of plain shoes (we used these Windsor Smith pairs)
- fake flowers (we found ours at Clegs on Elizabeth St in Melbourne)
- a pair of scissors
- a glue gun
Start by cutting the stems off your flowers so each one can be individually stuck on. Using your glue gun, begin sticking the flowers down by putting the glue straight onto the petals. Don’t be afraid to not stick them down perfectly, as placing them on messily and lapping them over one another creates a nice texture. We saved our smaller flowers for the finer areas of the shoes like the straps. Once you’ve covered the shoes, go back and fill in the gaps with single petals. And voila, your very own flower power shoes!
We wrapped up the racing season with a little marquee hopping for Stakes Day. From hand massages in the Emirates tent, to devouring delicious Big Group canapés at Myer, and partying in Lavazza, the end of season festivities were in full swing! If the hundreds of stares/gasps/whispers we received are anything to go by, apparently these outfits are quite out there. We thought they were considerably tame. To learn how to make your own flower power shoes, check back tomorrow for a DIY tutorial.

Not sure what you were doing at 4:30am this morning, but we were off to Fed Square to do a red carpet wrap-up on the European Music Awards for MTV Australia. Just your standard morning really. You can get the full fashion low down at mtv.com.au, but we’ve included a couple of our faves below.
Holy cheese balls, that is one banging bod! This chick is doing Aussies proud, taking the Angelina Jolie leg flash to new levels in this risqué number. Platinum slicked back hair and minimal jewelry was the perfect choice to compliment her her black cut-out gown. Lucky for her we’re big enough fans that we’re not even gonna mention the minor genital flash.
Wowzers, who is this breathtaking balayage-haired babe in a red blazer and leopard scarf? Jared Leto? For 30 seconds there we thought it was Olivia Palermo. Damn that’s good hair.
Show us some skin Miles! After her performance at the VMAs, we’re pretty disappointed to only be seeing about 80% skin here. Luckily for us all, she’s just mentioned she’s a massive fan of Redfoo and his skimpy getup… we’re predicting next time she’ll be in a speedo. You heard it here first people. With Biggy and Tupac all over her vintage ensemble (no, not literally), and thigh-high mod boots, the princess of pop is looking sexy as ever.

We may have given Cup Day a miss in favour of an afternoon by the pool, but there was no chance we were going to totally ditch the festivities. When evening hit we headed to The Deck at the Prince of Wales to get our Myer after-party on. We must admit, there is some serious guilt to be had turning up to a party rested and refreshed when every other girl there is in agony from prolonged time spent wearing shoes she can barely walk in and a giant flower (or some other equally large object) on her head. But no judgment here – that will be us this Saturday…
